Devotion: Living in Christ

September 05, 2016

Yesterday, September 4, 2016, our topic at Victory MetroEast was Living in Christ under All or Nothing Series. We are currently on the Week 5 of the series but this is again my first time to attend which is, sad and happy at the same time.

Sad because I realized that I have not been going to church for the last 5 weeks and happy because God never fails to reach His hands to me and offer me a second chance.

Living in Christ

Personally, living in Christ is indeed not easy. We always fall short of many things that we tend to feel disconnected with Him.

But how are we gonna lead your life to Him?

Colossians 3:5-11

5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[a] 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.11 Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

What we believe has a very definite connection with how we behave.

This is just so true! Let's check our beliefs in life and cross check how we behave. We may believe in God but sometimes, we are not acting the way we should as His children. Why? Because we don't see the cross as serious as it is.

They profess to know God but they deny in their works.

WHAT DOES LIVING IN CHRIST MEAN?

1. Put off old self (Colossians 3:5-7)

    • Sexual immorality (Col.18-20)
    • Impurity
    • Passion
    • Evil desire
    • Covetousness
    • ALL IS IDOLATRY. Kill it. Before it will kill you.

2. Put them all away against other people (3:8-9)

    • Wrath, anger (Long lasting and slow burning anger)
    • Yung mga tampo natin, minsan tayo lang ang may problema
3. Put On Our New Self  ( col. 3:12-13)

    • Put on your new nature and be renewed as you learn to know God
    • We are holy
    • Beloved
    • Compassionate hearts
    • Kind
    • Humble
    • Meek
    • Patient

4. Put off the old nature
    • Once you have put on your new self, put off the old nature
